For some reason it sounded like a fun idea to start a blog of my own instead of just reading what others have to say. I’m going to use the blog to chronicle my creative endeavors. I’m obsessed with knitting, crochet, woodworking, sewing, and pottery to name a few. I’m also obsessed with things that annoy me including incompetent drive-thru staff, politicians, bad drivers, yippy dogs and nosey neighbors – so expect an insightful post here and there about these topics. I can’t help it, I’m obsessed.
Today I stayed home from work – mostly I slept right through work. I have had trouble sleeping the past few days and on Monday night I didn’t bother going to bed at all. I wasn’t tired and so I spent the night knitting a scarf for a boy. I love how it turned out. He has a scooter that he drives to work very early when it’s cold, so I knitted up this cool buttonhole scarf I named “Scooter.” I made Scooter short because I don’t want the scarf getting caught on anything (like the antenna of a passing car). He’s accident prone like me, so planning for even the strangest unfortunate events is a good idea. I hope he likes it. I sent it to him via DHL and he signed for it today, but I haven’t heard anything from him, so we shall see. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. You think I would know better than to knit something for a man. According to knitter’s folklore it’s a surefire way to get a man to leave you alone. Maybe that’s why I haven’t heard from him yet.
Meet Scooter the Buttonhole Scarf!

I knitted Scooter using two strands of worsted Red Heart Super Saver yarn in black and gray. I used this yarn so he could throw the scarf in the washer to clean off dead bugs collected on the road without having to worry about shrinking the thing. I though it was a good idea. If anyone likes this scarf, let me know and I’ll post the pattern.

Today I also made a little cell phone holder using some of the leftover gray yarn. I found the pattern on one of those free pattern racks at the big W. It turned out cute and my neice wants one in red to match the red corner of her “woobie” blanket. I’m happy to oblige. A couple of weeks ago I was babysitting her and she helped me knit a couple of rows of a little purse that I later felted and gave to her. It shrunk beyond belief and is now just barely able to hold a credit card. But, hey, she is 3. What does she need a giant purse for. While I love the plastic darning needle holding this thing closed (see photo) I think I’m going to put a pretty piece of wood on the lathe and make a stick to hold the flap shut. The other day while shopping for wood at MacBeath Hardwood for my dad for father’s day, I picked up a lovely piece of Redheart that would look stunning. Not so sure a purse made out of $1.92 yarn is worthy of a piece of wood that sells for $15/bf, but it will give it a touch of class. I not only buy pretty wood, but since I’m a wood junkie I take pretty little scraps from the scrap bin when others carelessly throw them away. I can make something out of that someday!
